## Sustainable Development through Eco-Innovation: A Colombian Case Study### IntroductionEnvironmental concerns have gained prominence in recent decades, shifting the focus toward valuing ecosystem services in decision-making. This recognition of use values over exchange values is crucial for addressing environmental challenges from a comprehensive perspective. Moreover, experts emphasize the need to incorporate biodiversity and planetary boundaries into economic frameworks, highlighting environmental economics' commitment to sustainability.Eco-innovation, also known as green innovation, has emerged as a transformative approach to innovation, balancing environmental and social concerns with economic value generation. Unlike traditional product and process innovation, eco-innovation prioritizes environmental sustainability and promotes resource efficiency and competitiveness. ### Eco-Innovation and SMEsWhile larger companies often have the resources for eco-innovation advancements, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the Colombian economy. SMEs in Colombia contribute significantly to employment, economic growth, and regional development. However, they face challenges in adopting eco-innovative practices due to limited financial and technical resources, as well as regulatory complexities.Despite these challenges, eco-innovation presents both opportunities and benefits for Colombian SMEs.
